By JJFaucher

As I hurried home,
just before
the rain began,
a lone bird
perched atop
a tall lamp post
caught my eye.
It embodied
a quiet courage,
choosing perspective
over panic.
It lifted its gaze while
everything below
rushed and fretted in
the gathering storm.
Life often feels
like that high,
lonely perch-
A gentle calm
blankets me
as I dare to lift
my eyes upward
instead of scanning
the rush below.
I watch from
the street,
moved by
the bird’s quiet,
unflinching presence:
I am uncomfortable,
exposed,
uncertain…
yet somehow steadier
for the weight of its gaze.
Storms don’t
erase our direction;
they only reveal it.
So, I hold my ground
in those places
that feels
too quiet,
too high,
keeping my eyes
like the bird’s
open to the sky.
By the time
I reached my door,
my frantic stride
had surrendered
to a stroll,
a quiet meditation
on a bird
pinned against
the vast,
stormy sky
choosing
the grace
of perspective
over the fevered
rhythm of panic.

Thanks for reading! 🤩 It means so much to me that you took a moment to step into this city intersection and share in the stillness I found there.
I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever spotted a small moment of quiet in the middle of a busy day? Please share your story in the comments; I’d love to read it.🤗

I think sometimes, there’s more peace upward, too, waiting for us to look up and pause from the hurried world below. Amazing poem, JJ

“Be still and know that I am God” quells anxiety. I love your underlying belief because it provides strength for the weary, fretful soldier who seemingly has been gripped by fear. Yet, when we turn to the LORD, peace overflows, and we stand tall.
Is that what you meant in your beautiful poem?
