Broad is the way that leads to destruction

There are moments in every believer’s journey when we find ourselves standing at the edge of something dangerous, not fully in the wrong, but not fully anchored in the right. “The Devil’s Curb” names that fragile place.
It’s the spot where temptation feels subtle, compromise feels small, and the enemy teases that one step closer won’t matter. Yet it’s also the place where God’s mercy meets us with clarity, calling us back before we drift.
This acrostic poem invites us to pay attention to those edges in our own lives, the quiet thresholds where our choices shape our direction, and to remember that grace is strongest when we’re honest about where we’re standing.
It’s not “the Devil’s road”—it’s the curb, the borderline, the place where someone might pause, hesitate, or be drawn in.
Spiritually, it could imply
- the moments when we flirt with sin instead of fleeing it,
- the places where we underestimate spiritual danger,
- the subtle beginnings of a downfall,
- or the deceptive comfort of being “close enough” to trouble without fully stepping into it.
Poetically, it’s a powerful metaphor
It names that fragile space where a person is still on the right path…
but leaning just a little too close to the wrong one.
The Devil’s Curb
To think that there are no roads to tell of
Hell, or just the annoyance of the
Evangelist screaming in your head: Repent!
Daily trying hard to flee the presence of the Omnipotent, still
Excruciating pain grips your soul, while no more
Ventilated spaces are available; the air is sucked out by an
Incubated infectious evil which will not let you go
Let me admonish you today—
Set your soul on the purifying fire instead; take hold of
Christ as your saviour; position yourself for the
U-turn of your life; for the days are shortened- So,
Reduced the traps set for your feet, and
Break free and stride forth from the devil’s curb.

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Matthew 7:13
