Thinking and Writing Outside the Box- Writing Class

Dear Readers,
Have you ever noticed how one little word can cause a whole lot of noise?
Trump, what a name! A proper noun, a verb, a noun, an idiom, what a spectacle. In this short verse, I’m having a bit of fun with the many hats it wears. It’s not about politics (Ahem, maybe low key), it’s about absurdity, about how language trips over itself and accidentally lands on satire.
So come along and laugh with me, or at least raise an eyebrow. Sometimes, the only way to make sense of things is to write nonsense intentionally.
Trump or Trump
The News was blaring.
The old lady was hard of hearing.
What’s dat you say? (that)
“Trump is the new President of America!”
What is the meaning of trump?
“That’s his name, it’s a proper noun.”
“Trump,” she repeated quizzingly.
‘Who he trumping?’ she screeched.
“He is just sounding his trumpet.”
The old lady looked up, “Well, I hope he trump out de bad.’’ (the)
Then I remembered the kids playing cards, “I’ve got the trump card!”
And another one yells, “You don’t, trump; we win.”
Outshining the other team.
Somewhere, an intellectual questions, “Who is this man?”
With a trumpet growling loud and brash,
Trumpeting his boasts in a fiery clash,
Trumping rivals with a smirk and a jest,
He trumped them all,
And half the crowd was left unimpressed.
Didn’t mean to be rude,
But such a word can be misconstrued.
