Welcome to our photo story!
My daughter and I chose to travel by VIA Rail instead of flying. We were eager to experience the West Coast in winter and savour the journey back to Toronto, Ontario. Our route carried us from the wide‑open prairies through breathtaking landscapes, all the way to the stunning Pacific coast, before turning east toward home.
Every mile was enchanting, and we are excited to share some of the breathtaking scenes from our journey through a snowy paradise.
There’s no fancy editing here; every photo was captured with my trusty old cell phone camera.😉

Our adventure began in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the Christmas spirit was in the air from the very start. The train station was beautifully decked out with a stunning Christmas tree and festive decorations.
Funny enough, there wasn’t a flake of snow in sight when we left Vancouver. Talk about a slow start to our winter wonderland journey!
But then, as the train pulled away and the city faded into the distance, the transformation hit us. We were absolutely blown away by the sudden, breathtaking beauty of the landscape.

The trees stood like fluffy, snow-covered giants, and endless white trails stretched toward the horizon under a heavy, pristine blanket. Each bough, adorned in a glistening coat of white, seems to whisper tales of patience and strength.
As we were swept into this ivory wilderness, the mountains rose like monumental snow-carved sculptures, each boasting a unique and majestic silhouette.
My thought while editing: The train zoomed by so fast that I barely had a chance to snap a photo of the waterfalls or the peak of one of the mountains. But you get the picture, pun intended.🤔
Along the cliffs, we glimpsed hidden, frozen waterfalls; these glittering cascades looked as though they were plucked straight from the North Pole. Surrounded by the peaceful hush of this frozen world, it felt as if nature had pressed the pause button. It was an enchanting, crystalline paradise, and we couldn’t wait to share every incredible scene we witnessed.

The snow displays pristine purity. Nature etches mysterious patterns onto the ground. Every detail captivates the eye. The brilliant sun casts a radiant glow when reflecting off majestic mountains. It creates the same effect on a tranquil lake, illuminating the vast, snow-covered expanse. Each of these elements works together to offer a profound and unique sense of wonderment.

One of the many cabins in this little community sits frozen in time, waiting for its residents to return after the winter season. Snow blankets the roof, and icicles hang delicately from the eaves, preserving the stillness of this secluded retreat in their absence.

Soft and silent snow
Powdery flurries drift down
Earth is white and still

The gentle caress of the clouds against the vast horizon comes into focus as the train speeds by. The distant sight of the solitary corner store stands amidst miles of isolation. This provides a fleeting moment to capture and savour.
It reminds us that even in the harshest of seasons, there is beauty. There is also a deep-rooted connection to the enduring cycle of life.
Our train adventure was an absolute blast, and we hope you enjoyed this little peek into our journey.
Thanks for joining us on our winter wonderland express ride! 😍
Remember, every season has its beauty; we have to find it and enjoy it while we are yet on this earth.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18
